What’s my age again??? Blink 182 at O2 Academy Brixton

The day had finally come – 6th August 2014.

Ten years ago at the tender age of sixteen I went to my first proper rock show and saw Blink 182 back in Dusseldorf, Germany. Β And what can I say, this concert was one of the best nights ever that I experienced in my teens. Despite losing all my friends during the warm up of ‘Motion City Soundtrack’, and biting my tongue so badly that I had a hole in it. I’m almost certain that this night changed me forever. Yeah, at least a bit. I now know that you can still enjoy the show while bleeding πŸ˜€

So, where was I going? Right, today – ten years later – this glorious night was about to happen again.

I can’t describe how excited I was. Here I was outside the O2 Academy Brixton, with my dear friend, trying to contain myself. I failed.

We had arrived on time as I was pretty keen on seeing ‘PR/DES‘ open up for Blink 182. Loaded with a cold drink we tried to make our way in front of the stage and we were kind of successful. We ended up on the right side of the stage, 6th row or so. Pretty good view and every now and then a breath of fresh air. Oh the perks off being close to the emergency exit.

PR/DES (Prides) did an amazing Job opening up and I felt like a proud auntie, having seen them play the ‘Social’ earlier this year in front of just a few people and now standing in front of the 5.000 strong crowd. Β Their set included ‘The Seeds You Sow’ and my personal favouriteΒ  ‘Messiah’.

At 9pm the ‘Rock Show’ kicked off with ‘Feeling This’ and I completely lost it. It was all a bit too much, I felt like a helpless little fangirl, I kept screaming to my friend ‘It’s been ten years – oh my god!’. In this moment I realised two things; first – I have gotten old and second – I will always love Blink 182, no matter how old I am.

Conveniently, the next song was ‘ What’s My Age Again’. Damn you Blink 182. You really know what you are doing. Stop messing with my head.

The show was absolutely epic. There are no other words to describe this. Tom, Mark and Travis were on their ‘best’ behaviour πŸ˜‰ and just delivered.

The crowd was a hot sticky mess of die-hard Blink 182 fans that have been there for a long timeΒ  and this really made the concert something special. We were all desperate for ‘more’, waiting, wanting, needing the guys to play more songs and being ridiculous on stage. And well, they didn’t let us down, the lights went off during ‘Happy Holidays, You Bastard’ and everyone was shouting the famous lyrics.

The set was the perfect mixture to treat our longing souls, famous anthems like ‘Dammit’ and ‘Carousel’ (that used to be my ringtone for ages) and more recent ones like ‘Up All Night’.

The whole show was closed with ‘Family Reunion’, which was – oh bitter sweet memories – the opener of the concert Blink 182 played 10 years ago in Dusseldorf.

Seriously, what’s my age again?
