Prides at Shepherds Bush Empire

Having to open up a show for another artist is never the easiest thing to. However, Prides managed to turn the tables and got the crowd dancing and singing within a blink of an eye.

The three Glaswegian guys are currently on tour with Kiesza, supporting her at the UK Shows.

On Tuesday 24th March it was time for the London show. The Shepherds Bush Empire was fully packed as soon as the doors opened an everyone was getting ready for a great night of live music.

First on stage was the lovely Chloe Black getting the crowd ready for the main support ‘Prides’.

At 8:30 pm the Prides logo on stage lit up and Stewart, Callum and Lewis made their way on stage. ‘Hi we are Prides from Glasgow’, Stewart introduced the band before kicking off their set with ‘The Seeds You Sow’.
Having just finished their own headline tour, Prides were absolutely fuelled with energy with their keyboard action on point, instantly following up with ‘Just Say’.

Next up was ‘Little Danger’ where Stewart got the crowd involved. Encouraging the whole of Shepherds Bush Empire to sing the ‘I wanna be’ part of the chorus.
And the Empire followed suit, putting a smile on the guys faces.
It was a beautiful sing a long, even people who had never heard of Prides before were joining in and slowly falling for these guys amazing music.

Stewart, Callum and Lewis followed with their recent single ‘Higher Love’ and I am quite sure that there was a lot of love for Prides in the place.

Launching into the amazing ‘I Should Know You Better By Now’ followed by the beautiful ‘Out Of The Blue’ it was almost the end of the Prides set.

However, if you have ever been to a Prides gig, you know that it is not the end until the last chords of ‘Messiah’ slowly fade away.
Callum, Stewart and Lewis gave it their best one last time and rounded things up with their smash single ‘Messiah’, instantly getting the crowd dancing and singing along.

The guys thanked everyone and cleared the stage for Kiesza.

After the gig I hung out by the Merchandise where I met the lovely Greer ( who runs the brilliant Lewis Prides Fan Blog ) and the amazing Tracey. Killing the waiting time with some drinks and chats, suddenly Stewart, Callum and Lewis emerged from the vaults of Shepherds Bush Empire and joined us for a little chat.

I would like to say special ‘Thanks’ again to Stewart, Callum and Lewis for inviting me to this amazing evening and the great chats we had after the show.

What have we learned today?

If you love your synth-pop, definitely check out Prides as they are the most lovely and talented bunch of Scots 🙂

Lonely The Brave – Student Central London

Last night was probably one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

It’s been a long time coming for Lonely The Brave to go out there and perform their brilliant music on their own headline tour, having been amazing support to the likes of Marmozets on their ‘Big Cheese Tour‘ and Lower Than Atlantis back in 2014.

The London gig was finally round the corner and the ‘Student Central’ began to fill with music lovers and fans of Lonely The Brave.

As it was their own headline show, this time support came from two brilliant acts, better known as the gorgeous singer/songwriter Hannah Lou Clark and the great guys off The Xcerts. Both acts had the crowds full attention and made sure everyone is hyped up for Lonely The Brave.

It was about 9:30pm when the lights went off and the intro started to play and the anticipation was almost unbearable.

Having scored a place in the second row and being on the taller end of mankind, I had the perfect view of the stage.

Suddenly the guys entered the stage from the left, with drummer Gavin Edgeley leading his band. There couldn’t have been a better start to the show than with kicking off with ‘Victory Line’ – one of my absolute favourite songs.

Guitarist Mark Trotter shouting a very enthusiastic ‘LONDON!’ into his mic and instantly received a roaring response from the gathered fans.

Without further ado, Lonely The Brave went straight into ‘Trick Of The Light’ and ‘King Of The Mountain’. The crowd went absolutely mad for it, there was some serious pogo action and some moshing going on in the front of the stage.

The energy in the room was at next level, the fans and the band were giving it their all and both sides were simply lost in music.

Lonely The Brave is one of those bands that make sure you not just watch the show but you actually get on that rollercoaster and experience it all. Their performance is always so powerful and so emotional at the same time, thanks to the amazing vocals by singer David Jakes. His voice is without doubt one of a kind.

It is beautiful to see that David puts all the emotions that some other performers are sadly missing, into the songs. You don’t get that often these days. So we better cherish David Jakes work.

The set went on with the well loved tracks, ‘Dinosaurs’ and ‘Black Saucers’ from Lonely The Brave’s debut album ‘This Is War’. Next up was ‘Deserter’ which guitarist Mark Trotter dedicated to the amazing London crowd.

As the band has been teasing their fans over various social media platforms about new tracks lately, the time had finally come as a new song ‘Control’ filled the London Student Central. Judging from this performance, the new material will blow everyone away and will do Lonely The Braves amazing success justice.

Following the new song a fan favourite was played. ‘The Blue, The Green’ is such a powerful song that is best enjoyed live and sang at the top of your lungs. The whole Student Central was chiming in right from the start and everyone sang their hearts out to the powerful chorus.

Lonely The Brave wrapped up their amazing gig by performing their breakthrough single ‘Backroads’ as the last song of the night. The place went wild one last time, with guitarist Mark Trotter standing on the edge of the stage singing along the lyrics with the fans. Ross and Andrew going crazy one last time on the guitar and bass front, the fans cheered and then it was all over.

What a show it has been! It took me a good two days to digest everything that happened that night as it was just so much to take in.

I am beyond pleased with having been to that gig, as I even had the chance to speak to Mark, Ross and Gavin after the show, telling them that they were brilliant and they should never stop doing what they do, as this is it exactly what makes Lonely The Brave worthwhile.

Say you’ll be my messiah – Prides at Heaven, London

Say you’ll be my messiah?

Thursday night, 12th February at the renown night club ‘Heaven’ some lovely Scots put on quite the nice show.

Better known as the band ‘Prides’ who play the very best of snythpop that is currently out there. Prides were touring the mighty United Kingdom again, to harvest the seeds they’d sown at their previous tour earlier this year.

So tonight was all about the London crowd, and what can I say, that London crowd was proper excited! With some dedicated fans queuing in the cold well before the doors opened.

Support came from Model Aeroplanes and The Wild Curve who left the crowd in anticipation of the headliner.

Round about 9pm the theme tune to Aladdin (Prince Ali) filled the venue and Stewart, Callum and Lewis entered the stage.

They started their faced-paced hour long set with ‘Cold Blooded’ and the amazing ‘ The Seeds You Sow’. Next up was the new Prides single ‘Higher Love’ which went down an absolute treat. It’s always something special to hear brand new material live for the few first times, especially if this is your biggest headline show so far!

Needless to say the fans had done their homework and sang along with the chorus to ‘Higher Love’ leaving a smile on the Prides band faces.

Next up were ‘Just Say It’ followed by ‘Let It Go’ and ‘Little Danger’.

Big Ups to Prides for their amazing stage setting. Seriously – So.Many.Lights. Plus, not forget about the lasers – pew pew.

Even though the setting meant that half of the show you couldn’t even see Lewis the drummer and sometimes it was even hard to see Stewart and Callum behind their keyboards, but – Hell yeah, it looked amazing!

The crowd was having a great time, loads of dancing and obviously singing was going on. Which got even more intense as ‘I Should Know You Better’ was being performed. Following the glorious performance, the surprise guest Lauren Aquilina came on stage and together they sang the absolutely beautiful ‘Strong Enough’.

Just when you thought, it couldn’t get any better the boys played ‘Out Of The Blue’ – what a tune!

The entire venue was singing on top of their voices and to round it all off the streamer cannons were let loose. Unfortunately this was also the time Prides went off stage and left the crowd wanting more.

‘Say you’ll be my Messiah’ chants rattled through Heaven, and as if the prayers had been heard the guys came back on stage.

The boys were all smiling and surely weren’t done with this show yet. Stewart introduced the second part of the show, casually mentioning a certain ‘Mixtape’, which sent the crowd into a frenzy. If you have never heard of Prides doing the ‘Mixtape’, you are missing out.

‘Sing along if you know the words’ Stewart encouraged the fans.

And with that they launched in their 9 minute long mixtape, mashing up their personal favourite songs of 2014 in one musical masterpiece!

Those Prides guys are just super talented and they have all the rights to show it off with such an incredible performance.

To round things up and to finish the gig on a high, it was time for ‘Messiah’. What can I say?

Clearly one of my favourite songs and despite having seen Prides a few times already, this song gets me every time.

The crowd went obviously proper crazy and things got even better as the grand finale neared and hundreds of balloons were released from the ceiling.

The amazing show had sadly come to an end but Prides weren’t the lovely bunch of Scots they are if they wouldn’t join the fans in the foyer for an after show drink.

You’ll always be my messiahs guys 😉
